OnSite Upgrade

Philips Medical Systems offers a simple method for customers to upgrade the HeartStart Onsite and FRx defibrillators to meet 2005 Guidelines.

There are two options:

A COMPLETE UPGRADE – The complete upgrade includes a change to the CPR Coaching feature as well as a change to the default operational setting of the device. Philips will assess a service fee of $280.00 per device. Those who purchased a HeartStart OnSite or FRx Defibrillator after November 28, 2005, the day the new Guidelines were published, will not be charged a fee for the upgrade.

A PARTIAL UPGRADE – The partial upgrade changes only the operational default setting of the device to meet the 2005 Guidelines.

The CPR Coaching feature may either be disabled or set to remain at the previous coaching standards of 15 compressions/2 ventilations.

The FRx has an additional feature that can set the compression coaching to compression only CPR (no ventilations).

The medical director may provide guidance on upgrade options for your device.

The HeartStart OnSite can be reconfigured by the user to adapt to the major elements of AHA Guidelines 2005 (Shock protocol and CPR timeout protocol) by utilizing HeartStart Configure software.

However, to be completely compliant with the guidelines, the HeartStart OnSite will need to have the CPR Coaching feature upgraded by Philips at the factory or disabled by the customer (using HeartStart Configure software). CPR has changed to 30 compressions and 2 ventilations versus the previous 15:2 ratio. Philips will charge a nominal service fee for upgrading the device fully for those customers that purchased prior to the guidelines publication date of November 28, 2005. These customers will also receive a 2 year manufacturer warranty extension at no charge, a $395.00 value.

Devices purchased after the publication date will receive a reconfigured device at no charge.

Complete Upgrade Purchased Prior To 11/28/2005

To fully upgrade a device to be compliant with 2005 guidelines Philips will assess a service charge of $280.00 per device. Included in this upgrade is a full 2 year extension of the manufacturer warranty at no charge.

  • Order forms must be signed to be processed by Philips.
  • Additional pages are available for customers upgrading more than 6 devices.
  • Contact Northwest AED if a purchase order to Philips will accompany the order form.
  • All billing will be done by Philips Medical Systems, not Northwest AED.

Complete Upgrade Purchased After 11/28/2005

Partial Upgrade OnSite/FRx Defibrillators

By utilizing HeartStart Configure software, the customer can reconfigure the HeartStart OnSite or HeartStart FRx to meet the new one-shock protocol and CPR time-out period of two minutes.

A decision by the medical director should be made regarding the CPR Coaching feature on the HeartStart OnSite or HeartStart FRx.

The following are options for the CPR Coaching feature:

  • Disable the CPR Coaching feature using the HeartStart Configure software.
  • Retain the current setting on CPR Coaching at 15 compressions, 2 ventilations protocol.
  • Upgrade the CPR Coaching to 30:2 compression/ventilation protocol. This requires a full upgrade at the Philips factory.
